This post contains relatively insignificant content, and is half a venting post, and half an excuse to post the snorkel on the pace car Fiero.
So just now my mom said to me “We’ll pay for driving school, and will pay for all needed attempts to pass your test. However, if you don’t feel you need driving school, we’ll only pay for your first attempt. Also, the course is in early July.” Well, since I’m taking my drive out to Ontario in early July, and I want to have some experience driving on my own before then, I guess I might have to pay an extra $35, and face the wrath of my mom for the next few months. Oh well.

Why didn’t you just take the test when you were 18? No parental consent required when you reach the age of majority.

Because I needed to be on my moms insurance to be able to even come close to affording car insurance as I am younger than 25 years of age. So I had to bend to her rules

But still, how expensive is insurance for a Ranger? I’d be paying around $200 a month for my C1500.

I pay $125/ mo with 5 points on my license. I wouldve been paying that from day one, with the 5 points, now it would be around 200-225. I cant afford that

One moving violation I deserved, the other was a stupid speed trap and I was going a minuscule amount over in a a 45 that should really be a 55 zone

That explains it. I’d be paying around $200 a month comprehensive on my own policy.

My parents were pretty cool about getting my license but wouldn’t let me drive with anyone in my car until I had been driving for a year. Normally this would be the point where someone says “now that I’m older I see why they did it”. But no, after all these years since then I still think that I was a good enough driver that it really wasn’t necessary. My first accident/bad driving coming back on me was last year and I’ve been driving for a long time before that. Parents man.

Counterpoint. Insurance is usually cheaper with driver’s ed. Certificate.

I’ll be the “old” 25 year old here and say that I like your mom’s logic and you should roll with the plan she likes.

I took DE in the winter, and it was definitely worth it, plus it’s free for you. I learned a lot, even though it was at 6:30 in the morning. I’d do it.
